The Art of Keeping Customers and Closing Sales

1. Use physical marketing to give tangible reminders of your business

Physical marketing is often underutilized in today’s digital world. However, physical marketing items like business cards and brochures are excellent reminders of your business. They are things that customers can see, feel, and hold. Tangible contact like this often creates a more powerful connection and reminder.

Consider creating a set of stylish business cards using a service like Businesscards.co, or creating product brochures that people can interact with. These are simple but effective ways to give reminders of your company.

2. Create a regular newsletter email

Email newsletters are brilliant tools to boost business and keep customers coming back for more. Your website should ideally have clear sign-up options so people can subscribe to your email newsletter.

This newsletter should be sent out semi-frequently so as to not cause annoyance. It should also contain interesting and exciting information that customers will benefit from. This could include things like product sneak peeks, or even discounts for email subscribers. Tools like Mailchimp allow you to create detailed email newsletters.

3. Provide discounts and existing-customer promotions

One of the easiest ways to keep customers is to offer them discounts! Everyone loves a promotion or a discount on their shopping! You must balance this, however, and make sure that the discounts do not come at the expense of profitability.

You could offer discounts exclusively to existing customers also. This will give them a valid reason to return to your business and make purchases again. Promotions and discounts are also excellent tools to help close sales.

4. Make use of calls-to-action

One of the best ways to close sales is to add calls to action to your online content. A call to action is essentially something that prompts action from a customer. Actions could be to make a purchase, add an item to their shopping cart, or visit a particular web page, for example.

Your website, blog, and social media should have multiple calls to action available. Without these, customers will have no clear indicator of what to do or where to go. You must make the process easy for them and give them clear indicators of where they can go to buy your products! The easier and more prominent you make it, the better chance you have of closing sales.

5. Use psychological tricks to instill a sense of urgency

There is a range of simple psychological things you can do too to create a sense of urgency, or instill FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) in your customers. These are tried and tested tactics that businesses use on their websites, online stores, blogs, and social media, for example.

An example is to show the inventory count of a product. For example, you could have an indicator showing “Only 3 items left in stock”. This creates a sense of urgency and makes customers feel like they have to buy the item now or risk missing out! Showing discounts and original prices is a similar trick too. For example, you could show the discount price of $59, and in brackets, but the original price (Was $79).

These tips and tricks are relatively simple to do and can go a long way to convert customers into sales. Also, they can help build a reliable customer base that will use your business consistently and provide a steady flow of business and income.
